Enterprise Masterclass in Hull

When we got the invitation to attend a masterclass in Hull we couldn’t really refuse… last year they were voted second most enterprising place in the UK, but they went on to beat the 1st place winners (our neighbours in Lowestoft!) to win a European award for Enterprise.

We heard some speeches from Alan Johnson, shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer; Ruth Badger from The Apprentice and the High Commissioner of Mauritius Abhimanu Kudasamy. Then they let us do what we do best – work together and come up with some outstanding business ideas! Sadly Hull wasn’t ready for our big ideas, but we were so impressed we took our notes home … like all the great entrepreneurs in history we might need to knock on a few more doors til we get success…

Here’s the official report from Daniel –

With the successes of last years Events in Global Entrepreneurship Week, The Young Entrepreneurs Club was invited to attend one of the enterprise master classes that were being held at Hull University in celebration of the GEW (15th – 21st November). After a somewhat interesting journey up on the nation’s rail network, we found the city of Hull to be more than we had anticipated, providing more then enough entertainment for the group of inept teenagers.
The University gave good impressions, seeming to equal our local Uni with its characteristic charm. With such guests as His Excellency the Abhimanyu Kundasamy, High Commissioner of Mauritius, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer Alan Johnson, and the BBC’s Apprentice runner up, Ruth Badger, and a prize fund of £1200 in cheques and vouchers, this promised to be quite an event. However although we didn’t come home any richer, we did thoroughly enjoy the two days, whether this was because it was two days off school or our enthusiasm for Enterprise I am not sure. But in the end we left with our heads held high, smiling and altogether feeling good after attending the event and meeting many interesting people and making new contacts in business and education.

I would also like to take this time to thank all those involved in organising the event at Hull University, and especially Jackie and Julie for allowing us to go on this trip.
